Squid Jigs And All the Hype ? Choosing the right Jig
I can’t tell you which jig to select but I can share some information on how I select my jigs so I am going to keep this as basic as possible without getting too technical. I won’t be explaining the techniques on how to use the s quid jig (techniques, jigging, twitching, whatever you want to call it), but I will focus on where and how to find a squid so it will help you selected your jig in your area.

Squid predominately hunt with their eyes , so when you fish for squid its best to find clean  water in your region, combined with a reef bottom or broken ground. Depending on the tide and time of day depends on what type of lure you need to use. On a brighter day with clear water you should choose a lure with natural colors. Brown and Orange squid jigs are my preference in this situation. On a dark and cloudy day or if the water is murky I tend to use a lure with brighter  colors such as yellow/green/pink. sounds easy right ? thats because it is .
I personally don’t get to technical. Squid feed near the bottom so you just need to get your jig as close to the bottom as you can. I think about how deep the water is where I’m are going to be fishing. There are no rules to selecting the right jig size. I have caught many big fish on small jigs and vice/versa. Personally I prefer bigger jigs around 3.5 jig size and I believe that its in the technique of the fisherman to get the jig to dart around close to the bottom and to be in the right spots, in the right times .
An Egi jig is just the Japanese name for a squid jig they are the same jig . Expensive squid jigs made by Yo-zuri, Yamashita and Shimano Sephia work a treat, but I am yet to see a cheaper jig fail and for this reason I will predominately use cheaper no name jigs. . And if you want to purchase expensive jigs, buy Shimano. But it really comes down to the your tastes and preference.

How To Tie a Running Rig Used in fast moving water

Running Rig for fishing Fast Current Rig or running rig : A Simple Fishing Rig used in area’s you might find fast flowing current’s like western port or any other place in Australia. i use this rig when the tides are flowing  to target  fish l such as  gummy sharks & snapper . To tie this fishing rig you will need some leader, i prefer to use 80lb in fast current as you need heavy sinkers to get to the bottom .you will also need a Circle Hook  , i don’t snell my hooks in fast moving currents as you want your bait to sit straight once on the bottom . you will also need some easy clips & Some shock leader , i just use normal 80lb leader for my shock leader  you will need Swivels rated to 100lb.  a bell sinker / weight to clip on to your rig.

When tiring this running rig connect the rig using uni knots & to connect mono to( braid main line ) i use a double uni knot  , follow the diagram to tie the rig, this rig will hold up on many fish i have caught snapper gummy sharks & variety of fish easily dispatch of big ray’s & seven giller sharks , using Circle hooks mean you can catch sharks with teeth on this rig because of  9 time out of ten you get a jaw hook up which keeps the leader away from the fish teeth . you can also use this running rig on whiting you just need to use smaller line class.

A strip of pilchard is ideal, especially in the surf. Bait the hook just as you would for normal circle hooks. 
 Small fish fillets or pieces of cut up baitfish can also be used with Snapper Rigs (Snapper snatcher). When baiting up, make sure the gape of the hook is not obscured with too much bait and the hook point is well clear of the of your chocie of fresh  bait. Once you have your The flasher rigged, baited and in the water, sit back and relax  The circle hooks, are designed to hook the fish in the corner of the mouth as it takes the bait and moves away. Striking will only pull the hooks, so just dont do it wait till the rod is bent over and a sharp swift lift is enough to hook the fish . If holding the rod while surf fishing, don't start fighting the fish until you're sure the fish is well hooked. A great way to fish for snapper with Reedys rig's is directly to the bottom,dont cast it out just drop it down to the bottom .  The flasher will wash around in the current and  act like a lure and double your chances to catch that big red .
